‘Ok, that makes sense, so why doesn’t it work for me?’
‘But I eat the right food, exercise, and just can’t shift the weight’
The most recent statistics (2021), state that 63% of the UK population is overweight. Of that figure, 28% are classified as obese. The figures for child obesity are rising rapidly. What is going on?? These conditions leads to:
- Heart attacks
- Feelings of poor self-worth
Away from the headlines, let’s look at the facts.
Firstly, everyone is individual and unique, so different foods, portions and exercise regimes will have different outcomes. For instance, a Personal Trainer would not give the same training programme to a diverse class (different ages, genders, body types, medical histories) and expect the same result. It might hone some, make some give up, and injure others.
Secondly, we have different metabolisms, body types, genetics, and physical predispositions / abilities
Thirdly, there is a mental / mindset aspect to weight loss / control which is specific to each individual.
Fourthly, food today does not contain the same level of nutrients it did in the past due to the way it is produced. As a consequence, we try to obtain the same level of nutrients by increasing our portions.
Our aim is to support and enable you to become the best version of yourself and understand why comparison with others or trying to live up to an impossible ‘ideal’ may not be helpful, or indeed damaging. There is little point in losing an unsustainable amount of weight, only for life to be miserable.
We encourage a balanced approach to weight control which enables you to perform at your best in the knowledge that you achieve realistic goals while maintaining your physical and mental health.
