Medicine+Astrology? The Universe Within Us

Medical astrology, also known as iatromathematics, is an intriguing and ancient branch of astrology that focuses on the relationship between celestial bodies and our health.

At the heart of medical astrology is the idea that different parts of the body are connected to the zodiac signs and planets—a concept known as melothesia. For example, Aries is linked to the head, Taurus to the throat, and so on down the body. Just like each sign has its own personality, it also has unique energetic qualities that can show up in your physical and emotional health.

A medical astrologer can identify areas where you may be more sensitive, prone to imbalance or naturally strong. This insight can guide personalized wellness practices—specific foods, herbs, or routines—that support your unique constitution.

While it doesn’t replace medical care, medical astrology adds a powerful layer of awareness that helps you care for yourself more deeply

Bridging Ancient Beliefs with Modern Science

Before modern medicine, doctors and herbalists relied on astrology as their primary diagnostic tool. Physician-astrologers would not only examine the patient’s birth but also prepare a decumbiture chart (event chart) for the moment the patient took to bed.

Physicians would closely monitor astrological charts to identify potential health risks for their patients based on planetary alignments at specific times.

These ancient medical practitioners gained a deeper understanding of various diseases and developed customized treatment plans. The knowledge was passed down through generations.

Ancient healers believed that the movement of the planets could directly affect the body’s fluids, energy flow and overall balance. They often timed treatments to match certain astrological events, thinking this would make healing faster and more effective.

Today, we’re beginning to understand some of these connections through modern science. For example, the circulatory system might be influenced by the gravitational pull of planets, while the nervous system may respond to shifts in the Earth’s electromagnetic field caused by planetary alignments.

The Moon’s phases—waxing, full, waning, and new—have long been linked to rituals and natural rhythms. Now, many people are exploring how the Moon connects with menstrual cycles. Tracking lunar phases alongside monthly cycles can help reveal emotional and energetic patterns, especially for those dealing with conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Endometriosis, PMS, and heavy periods (Menorrhagia). This approach offers a more intuitive, body-connected way to understand hormonal and emotional shifts.

Astrology may be seen as an unconventional approach in modern medicine. However, throughout history, physicians have utilized various astrology tools and techniques to aid in diagnosis and treatment. These ancient practices have shaped our understanding of healthcare. Astrology has played a crucial role in preventive medicine.

A New Frontier

For a long time, scientists have dismissed the idea that stars and planets could influence human health, saying their gravitational pull is too weak to have any real effect. But what they often overlook is something far more powerful: electromagnetic forces. These forces are much stronger than gravity and may quietly be influencing life on Earth in ways we’re only beginning to understand.

A growing number of researchers are now exploring how astrology could be connected to real physical forces. One article published in SOJ Immunology (June 2019) by Maria Kuman explains that nonlinear physics—a field that studies complex, unpredictable systems—might help explain how celestial energies impact human health and development.

Many scientists avoid astrology because gravity alone can’t explain how it works. But astrology might not be about gravity at all. It could involve more subtle, energetic forces—like electromagnetism or quantum phenomena—that modern science is just beginning to grasp.

One exception in the scientific world is Professor Percy Seymour, a respected astrophysicist and cosmologist. He’s known for making complex topics accessible and engaging, and his research bridges the gap between science and deeper cosmic mysteries. He has written extensively on topics like dark matter, dark energy, and how unseen forces shape our universe.

Professor Seymour has also explored how astrological influences could be connected to real physical mechanisms, such as electromagnetic waves and cosmic fields. His work invites us to consider that astrology and science may not be as far apart as they seem.

To truly understand the link between astrology and human health, we may need to explore bold new territory—Quantum Entanglement and Quantum Gravity, General and Special Theory of Relativity of Einstein in relation to Space-Time distortion and Time-Lag of Planetary influence, String-Super-String-Brane-M Theories, Dark Energy and Lensing Effects of Planets. These are the cutting edges of physics, and they might just hold the key to connecting ancient wisdom with modern science.

Astro-Energetic Pioneers

Dr. Bruce Lipton

Dr. Bruce Lipton is a cellular biologist and author who has extensively researched the influence of our environment, including cosmic frequencies, on human biology and health. His work focuses on epigenetics and how external factors, such as cosmic frequencies, can affect gene expression and overall well-being.

Nikola Tesla

While not directly studying cosmic frequencies and the body, Nikola Tesla was an inventor and electrical engineer who had a deep understanding of electromagnetic waves and their potential impact on the human body. His work in wireless energy transmission and the exploration of cosmic energies laid the foundation for further research in this field.

Dr. Richard Gerber

Dr. Richard Gerber was a physician and author who explored the concept of vibrational medicine. In his book “Vibrational Medicine: The #1 Handbook of Subtle-Energy Therapies,” he delves into the relationship between cosmic frequencies and their effects on the body’s energy systems.

Rupert Sheldrake

Rupert Sheldrake is a biologist and author known for his research on morphic resonance and the interconnectedness of all living things. While not exclusively focused on cosmic frequencies, his work explores the idea that cosmic fields and frequencies may play a role in shaping the development and behaviour of organisms.

Did you know that this ancient practice can be traced back to the 1st century AD? Marcus Manilius, in his epic poem Astronomica consisting of a whopping 8000 verses, mentioned the concept of medical astrology.

In the late 15th century, Marsilio Ficino explored this intriguing subject in his renowned work “Three Books on Life” (De vita libri tre).

Two notable works followed in the 17th century. In “Lilly, William, Christian Astrology (1647)” and “Culpepper, Nicholas, Astrological Judgement of Diseases from the Decumbiture of the Sick (1655)”.

Culpepper’s “Astrological Judgement of Diseases from the Decumbiture of the Sick” focuses specifically on how astrology can be used to diagnose and treat illnesses.

Another timeless classic is Richard Saunders’ groundbreaking book “The Astrological Judgment and Practice of Physick,” published in 1677, which provides invaluable insights into how astrology can be applied to the field of medicine.

And the most recent classic, H.L. Cornell’s “The Encyclopaedia of Medical Astrology.” Originally published in 1933 and reprinted by Astrology Classics in 2010, this comprehensive guide offers a wealth of knowledge on medical astrology.

Advice

Medical astrology, when practiced by a skilled practitioner, can be a valuable complement to the care provided by licensed medical doctors. Medical Astrology does not serve as a substitute for professional medical care but rather offers an additional perspective and potential relief in cases where standard medical practices may not have provided a diagnosis or relief.

The practice of medical astrology requires profound knowledge in both the fields of astrology and medicine. A skilled practitioner understands the complexities of human health and combines this knowledge with astrological insights to provide a holistic approach to healing.

It is important to emphasize that any decisions regarding healthcare should always be made in consultation with licensed medical professionals. However, for those seeking alternative perspectives or exploring complementary approaches, the practice of medical astrology can provide an additional layer of understanding and potential relief.
